Greater Lansing School Districts

There are 25 public school districts serving more than 70,000 students within Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties. The largest one, Lansing School District , serves more than 14,000 students in 25 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools and a vocational center.

Lansing School District, which is among Michigan’s largest school districts, educates students representing more than 80 foreign countries and speaking some 65 foreign languages at home. It offers a variety of outstanding programs, including full-day kindergarten in every elementary school, nationally recognized magnet schools, an international baccalaureate program, and Chinese and Spanish language immersion programs.

Lansing School District also offers a tuition-free Montessori program at the Wexford Montessori Magnet school. In addition, there are at least three private Montessori schools within the Greater Lansing region.

There are eight public charter schools in our region as well. The largest, Lansing’s Windemere Park Charter Academy, is run by National Heritage Academies and educates more than 700 students in grades K through 8.

Nearly 5,000 students in the Greater Lansing region are educated in private schools, both religious and secular. There are more than 30 schools with religious affiliations in the region, including Amish, Baptist, Catholic, Islamic, Lutheran, nondenominational Christian, nonsectarian, Pentecostal and Seventh-Day Adventist schools.

In addition, there are many adult and alternative education programs in the region.
