While most of our region’s visitors come from within a four-hour drive, we’ve hosted dozens of national and international events. The Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in 2007 brought tens of thousands of visitors from more than 15 different countries to our region, and the U.S.-Africa Sister Cities conference in July 2008 will bring thousands more.
The Greater Lansing region is also a popular place for sporting events – most recently, we hosted the NCAA Women’s basketball tournament and the USA Racquetball Junior Nationals. The Greater Lansing Sports Authority works to attract these events, as well as to help develop others in our region.
So what makes Greater Lansing such a great choice for visitors?
Our central location is key. Greater Lansing is easily accessible – we’re at the crossroads of most major Michigan highways, and we’re an easy flight from most major cities. (Capital Region International Airport was recently designated a U.S. Port of Entry, which will allow it to handle international flights. The airport will open a permanent customs facility by 2009.)
Our primary convention facility, the Lansing Center, sits on the banks of the Grand River in downtown Lansing and is connected to the Radisson Lansing Hotel via an enclosed pedestrian walkway. With additional meeting facilities – large and small – all over the region, we can offer a venue to suit every need.
Because our region is home to both Michigan’s Capitol and Michigan State University, convention planners have convenient access to experts from numerous fields as potential keynote speakers, panelists and more.
Last but not least, you’ll enjoy first-rate service from the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), which has a long history of going the extra mile to help groups have a great experience in Greater Lansing. In fact, that history is getting attention – the Greater Lansing CVB is the first CVB in Michigan to achieve accreditation from the Destination Marketing Association International.
